Puffin's Diary
The Night I Missed My Stop

First-person notes from Puffin's nights out – the last metro, the last slice, the last ride.

I closed my eyes for one station. Just one. I opened them at the end of the line, and it turned out to be the best part of the night.

The chairs were already upside down on the tables. The oven was cooling. And then the owner turned around holding one more slice.

The fairy lights were switching off one by one. The old wooden coaster had time for one more ride. So did I.

It started with a poster on the metro. It ended with the perfect scoop, a warm wall at sunset, and a very sticky beak.
