The Joy of Just One More

Why the best moments deserve a little encore. The One More Puff philosophy of savouring small pleasures and staying a little longer with the people you love.

A glowing door standing in pink clouds

Everyone knows the moment. The sun is going down, the conversation is good, the evening is warm, and someone says, „Shall we head off?“ And somebody else, usually the one with the calmest smile, says: „Nah… just one more.“

One more lap of the square. One more stop on the night metro. One more ride on the old wooden roller coaster. One more scoop. One more sunset. This little phrase is the heart of everything we do here, and it belongs to our friend Puffin, a relaxed Atlantic puffin from a windy Icelandic cliff who now lives in the big city and refuses, politely, to rush anything.

This is our attempt to explain why „just one more“ is not about wanting more stuff. It is about wanting more of the moment.

Moments, not more

We live in a world that is very good at „more“: more content, more notifications, more things to buy, more to do. The One More Puff idea is almost the opposite. It is not about piling up. It is about lingering. Stretching a good moment a little longer, so you notice it properly before it ends.

The difference matters. „One more episode“ at two in the morning, when you are not even enjoying it, is autopilot. „One more song“ while you and a friend sit on the steps of a quiet square, not wanting the night to finish, is savouring. One fills time. The other fills you up.

„I don’t want everything. I just want this, for one more minute.“ – Puffin

The art of savouring

Savouring is a simple idea: paying full attention to something pleasant while it is happening. Many people find that slowing down to notice good moments makes those moments feel richer and more memorable. And it does not need anything special. A few ways Puffin practises:

  • Pause on purpose. When something is lovely, say so, even just to yourself. „This is nice.“ Naming it helps you notice it.
  • Use all the senses. The warmth of a slice of pizza in your hands, the clatter of a café, the pink and lilac of a sky after rain.
  • Put the camera down after one photo. One picture for later, then the rest of the moment for now.
  • Share it. Good moments grow when you point them out to someone else.

Small pleasures are the big ones

It is tempting to save happiness for big events: holidays, celebrations, special occasions. But most of life is made of ordinary days, and ordinary days are full of small pleasures if we stay long enough to notice them. The first sip of a warm drink. The smell of a bakery at 7am. A stranger’s dog trotting past with tremendous self-importance. A seat by the window on an empty night train.

Puffin’s diary is full of these. Read Closing Time at the Pizzeria and you will see that the best part of his evening was not the pizza itself, but the quiet, warm room afterwards, the chairs being stacked, and the kind cook who handed him one more slice.

Staying a little longer with friends

The most precious „one more“ is usually about people. One more story at the kitchen table. One more walk around the block because you have not finished talking. One more hug at the station before the train leaves. These moments are easy to cut short when life is busy, and they are the ones we tend to remember for years.

So the next time you are about to leave a good conversation early out of habit, check in with yourself. If you are tired, go home and rest, truly. But if you are only leaving because that is what you always do, maybe stay. Ask one more question. Order one more hot chocolate to share. Let the evening be a little longer than planned.

Knowing when one more is lovely

Here is the important bit. „Just one more“ works because it is small. It is an encore, not a marathon. Puffin is relaxed, not reckless. He knows that a moment is lovely partly because it ends.

  • One more is lovely when it adds joy: a longer chat, a final view, a second scoop savoured slowly.
  • One more is not the point when it becomes about excess, when you are tired, when it costs you sleep you need or money you would rather keep, or when you are no longer enjoying it.
  • Listen to yourself. The right „one more“ leaves you feeling fuller and calmer. The wrong one leaves you feeling emptier.

Think of it like the last ride at the fair. One more go on the roller coaster as the lights come on is magic. Riding it twenty more times would not be. It is the single encore that makes it special. If you want to see what that looks like, read Puffin’s diary entry Front Row on the Last Ride.

Stay a little longer

Our tagline is a gentle invitation, not an instruction. Stay a little longer. At the table. On the bench. In the warm light of the evening. With the people who make you laugh. Not because you should, but because the good moments are worth noticing before they slip away.

Puffin’s tip: tonight, find one ordinary moment and give it an encore. Watch the sky for one more minute. Listen to one more song with your eyes closed. Call one more friend just to say hello. Then notice how it feels. Nah… just one more. That is the whole philosophy.
